This was an LP that I had and loved..in fact I loved Norman Connors. He was like Quincy Jones with finding and producing talent. Al Johnson is one such talent. Alfred Orlando Johnson is an American R&B singer and producer.
Johnson attended Howard University in Washington, D.C., and while there joined the soul group The Unifics. The Unifics scored three hits on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1968 and 1969 before breaking up in 1970.
In 1980, Johnson released a solo album produced by Norman Connors, entitled Back for More, on Columbia Records. It peaked at #48 on the U.S. Black Albums chart.
The lead single from the album was "I'm Back for More", a duet with Jean Carn. "I'm Back For More" hit #26 on the U.S. R&B chart, and the follow-up, "I've Got My Second Wind", hit #58, both in 1980. The Unifics
A late-'60s and early-'70s soul group, the Unifics formed at Washington, D.C.'s Howard University. Their lead singer was Al Johnson, with tenors Michel Ward and Grek Cook and baritone Harold Washington. Their biggest hit was 1968's "Court of Love," which mixed narrative, mock courtroom proceedings, and Johnson's passionate vocals. It peaked at number three and also made it to number 25 on the pop charts. A second single, "The Beginning of My End," also cracked the R&B Top Ten at number nine. They enjoyed two other mild hits in 1969, "It's a Groovy World" and "Toshisumasu," but were never again major players in the soul arena. Ward and Washington left in 1970, and were replaced by Marvin Brown and Tom Fauntleroy. The Unifics moved from Kapp to the Fountain label in 1971, making a few more records before disbanding. Johnson enjoyed some success as a lead singer and producer in the late '70s, '80s, and '90s.

'Last Days In Time' finds Earth,Wind & Fire at a certain peak of sorts. This is the bands debut album for Columbia and also the debut of singer Phillip Bailey in their band. Not only is his voice in peak form but EWF have obviously not quite let go of the ensemble-style jazzy funk they'd patented from their debut on Warner Brothers two years earlier (which is even rawer then THIS).That sound is most evident on the communal funk jams of "Time Is On Your Side",the wonderful "Remember The Children" and the brilliant instrumental workout "Power".And even while Bailey sings a couple pop covers in "Make It With You" and "Where Have All The Flowers Gone" Earth,Wind & Fire didn't get any hits from this album.Their sound was still far too eclectic and drew upon too many world and jazz music elements to really get over on the pop charts. So for a glimpse into EWF's pre-superstar days WITH Phillip Bailey this album is a good place to go.You certainly won't find anything from it on Columbia's 1978 greatest hits album 'The Best Of Earth,Wind & Fire' and even on more extensive compilations these songs are often skimmed over.So for any EWF fan I'd say this album is pretty essential.
