DJF...CJF...we're down to just 2 days. Where will You Be...Where will I be. Wherever I can...wherever there's music...especially Jazz, I'll try my hardest. B/cuz It's In My Soul! I attended DJF (Detroit Jazz Festival)last yr which like Chicago Jazz Festival is always held Labor Day Weekend. Regina Carter (Detroit native) opened the festival to be followed by Herbie Handcock joining her. Two great sets. These two compliment each other so naturally. She would later on in the festival perform with the great Kenny Baron...WOW. The New Patti Austin's( same great beautiful voice) set was a wonderful moment as well. Tia Fuller.. A very young(15yrs old) but very talented Grace Kelly...Russel Malone... Stanley Jordan...etc. Oh So much great music. Did I see you there...Will you see me there this yr?

I'm really now starting to hear Jazz..before I liked it and it served as great ambience..but I never really heard it like I do now. Deep. I want so much to really know who's who in Jazz Land..and so far, a few have turned me on to some fire masters of the genre. Sure, EVERYBODY knows the mainstays like Miles and Trane and Dizzy, etc...but I wanna know the ones that I don't know.

That's why I hope this venture will be a give and take and not just a take (as in coming through, listening and grooving, and then moving on without at least acknowledging having been present..)
I went to the Kettle Moraine Jazz Festival recently (last year) and it was great! Rick Braun and some more folks were there. Went with my Evan who should have been on the roster himself. He can hang with the giants in my opinion, anyhoo...
What is jazz? First off, it is music, not a voice of revolt, not a social mystique, a “way of life.” It is music of a rather simple kind as music goes in the twentieth century, and so it should be fairly easy to define and describe. But there are almost as many answers to the question “What is jazz?” as there are jazz critics — not widely different answers, except for a few cranks, but varied, and clustered around a sort of loose consensus of definition.

Quincy Jones is thoroughly entwined in the musical background of my young adulthood. A genius of unique quality. I have been posting blogs and music throughout the years and decided to embark on the arduous but satisfying task of gathering some of it to remember the excellent legacy that he left.
