Steeltown Records was a short-lived record label active from 1966 to 1972 and formed by Gordon Keith in Gary, Indiana. It's best known as the label that first signed The Jackson 5 a couple of years before Motown signed the young quintet.

The Jackson 5 recordings and released two singles during their short tenure at the record company—"Big Boy" and "We Don't Have To Be Over 21 (to Fall in Love)".

A compilation, The Steeltown Sessions (Almafame ALMACD2), features the Jacksons' Steeltown recording sessions 1965-1967.

I had this 45. We wore it out, me and 4 of my friends. I think every little black kid in Chicago and Gary tried to emulate The Jackson Five back then. I was the only one on key among the group--consisting of Me, Arlene, Pam, Nancy, and somebody else...

We kept going over the first bars of the song..but they kept melting over into..my part. They couldn't sing. Finally, Momma yelled from upstairs..."Lawd PLEASE!!! Yall gals ...GO HOME!!!!" She later told me she couldn't take it anymore!!!! LOL!!!!!!

I have Big Boy up on the site here, btw....I bought it from Out Of The Past Records. Elephant Walk too by Donald Jenkins and the Daylighters...that was my JAM back in the 60's.
