Have you ever gone for a walk in the evening
In the cool of a twilight blue
And thoughts of the past came floating back
Like they so often do.

You thought of the good and bad things
That had happened in your life to you
The times you laughed, the times you cried
As though your heart was breaking into.

You remember the days of your childhood
And fairy tales that seemed real
And how nice you were just before Christmas
So Santa your stockings would fill.

You thought there was gold at the end of the rainbow
And little frogs came down with the rain
And when it thundered, you thought God was angry
And Jack Frost painted your window pane.

And how Mama used to bake cookies
And let you play in the suds of the wash
And the day dad brought home the puppy
And it chased the cat through the marsh.

One other thing I'm sure you'll remember
It happens when you're about 16,
The old folks said it was puppy love
But to you it was a beautiful dream.

There were parties, picnics and moonlight rides
And the teacher you like the best of all
And the time your team had the game in the bag
Until the quarterback fumbled the ball.

For just a moment your thoughts might linger
On some loyal and devoted friend
Who was always in your corner
Whether it was lose, draw or win.

They say it's only the futire that matters
You should never look back on the past
But when memories tug at your heartstrings
What's wrong with a glance at the past?
