"Curtis Mayfield was a genius--an innovator--a MASTER at weaving the 'perfect' musical backdrop for what we enjoyed back in the day, particularly in the film genre. Can you imagine the Blaxploitation flicks like SuperFly without his soundtracks? Outside of that so-called 'blaxploitation' label, try to imagine "Claudine" without Mayfield's soundtrack--it ain't hardly plausible. "The Makings of You" 'still resonates in my mental archives of treasures as setting the tone for that masterpiece in movie making. Inimitable in his skill and ability to paint a picture through sound, he was the 'template' for many, many artists, who sat at his figurative feet and garnered the foundation of their 'own' unique musical accomplishments. Van Hunt is one such example. Though he is truly missed, there is a corresponding and neverending joy, knowing he was here--as a TRUE,

Old School...TREASURE."--Edie2k2
