I surrender to the ladder of my soul
the rungs of which lay bare my sorrow
I step the progressive road to life
though weary from the climb.

Perceptive though my thoughts may be
I sometimes jump into the fray
Pastoral arms recover me
and lead me day by day.

A light shines at the top
of the ladder of my soul
beckoning my ascent even
when I fall, grasping my
hand when I lose all hope
shining brilliantly as I grope.

Calm, I tread the quiet path
leading to love
atop the ladder of my soul.
