The Republican Brand

INNER CITY BLUES

It should be very clear to all living in The WORLD that the so-called Republican Party, in 2009 is not, nor has it ever been the “Party of Lincoln”. All, and I do mean all of the politician who carry the banner of the ELEPHANT beside their name are nothing more than reactionary opportunists, who practice guile…deceit…and wholesale class warfare against the citizens of our nation.
Political events and activities in this country prove this statement to be, at its core, True. Furthermore it has been true since the era of Nixon politics. In a way It has always been true but never more than the “let them eat cake” mentality that is characterized by such grandiose attempts at wealth re-distribution as ‘Supply Side Economics”, “anti-unionism, “ False Right to Life rhetoric while actually practicing every perversion know to modern man, and the old mantra “DE-REGULATION o keep Government off our backs. It is largely that latter preoccupation that is responsible for the current near Depression economic situation we face as Americans today.
Former president Reagan with his “supply Side economic plan really ushered in the “trickle-Down” mentality that has allowed the virtual economic rape and disenfranchisement of most of the citizens of this our society.
What do I mean? Its very simple. In its championing of a “Get all you can” attitude, the Republican party has subjected us all to a kind of “VOODOO ECONOMICS” that has robbed many citizens of their livelihood…………older Americans of their retirement……poor Americans of the right to gainful employment……..And all of us young and old, rich and poor, Black and White, of HOPE. in a brighter tomorrow.
All in the name of PROSPERITY for the FEW!
It is Republican economic policy that has led directly to an increase in unemployment not seen since the GREAT DEPRESSION. It is that same republican economic policy that led directly to the crimes and abuses of “Madoff”- Even against members of his own family! It is that same failed and totally flawed economic policy that allowed Treasury Secretary to lead the way to defrauding the American people out of almost a TRILLION DOLLARS…….with nothing more than “scare tactics” and no visible relief to the problem that money was supposed to fix.
It Truth and in fact that money, once bilked out of our children’s future well being has only been used to enrich the already burgeoning financial coffers of the ultra rich and powerful among us. Multi-million dollar private jet aircraft to be used exclusively by the so-called elite and bought with taxpayer money. Ever climbing health care costs that only the ultra rich can handle, are just 2 examples of this phenomenal turn of events That threatens to destroy us all.
I was told by some very wise economic sources in 1969 [some 40 year ago] that The economic situation in this country would finally come down to a war between the HAVES verses the HAVE NOTS in the battle for the 21st Century.
IT INDEED HAS!!!!
Further they said…..It may destroy the world as we know it, If something is not done to reverse the trends, that much was evident even then.
Indeed, the WORLD ECONOMIC CRISIS would seem to bear that out. Never ending wars that cost so much in Human Life and financial resources show even more what is happening in our world.
For me the meaning is clear. THERE IS AN EVIL FORCE AT WORK HERE! That evil force is GREED, AVARICE, ABUSE OF MONEY, and a total LACK OF LOVE or CARING for EACH US!
I believe all those problems and conditions have been identified before………..In The BIBLE!
WAKE UP EVERYBODY!
The so-Called Leaders of the Republican Party are meeting [in secret ] this weekend to chart its future in the wake of a crushing defeat at the polls during the last national election. It is noteworthy that that election also yielded a seemingly ready for action leader who is trying hard to steer us in a new and more positive direction. As everyday ordinary Americans in this mix……We have an awesome and individual responsibility! While THEY are meeting to plot OUR FUTURE……….Call Them…..Write Them…..and ASK THE QUESTION!

WHATS GOING ON!

Interesting.............would you expound a lttle more............really interesting! Are you referring to the New World Order theory of planned economic chaos and therefore take over...?
I lay the blame directly at the feet of Bush/Cheny. They have the typical Republican mentality that says...let big business make as much money as it can... anyway it can.......and the heck with everybody else. They had to see this coming. They just hoped they would be out of office before the bottom dropped out. They didn`t quite make it. Without a doubt, GW was the worst president in my lifetime. But, let me give him props for one thing. Because he was soooo bad at his job, the country decided to give the Black guy a shot at it. Obama sure has one hell of a mess to clean up. I wish him well.
By and large, Americans are STUPID......politically, and that transfers into allowing their own elected officials to run roughshod over us. Remember according to the constitution..........WE THE PEOPLE are the BOSS in this country. Lately, we the people have been giving up our responsibilty. These people need to reflect what we want and what is good for us the citizen. e have to stop allowing the tail to wag the Dog! NA'MEAN??????
I just hope that this gets better soon, because it's not making any sense at all, folks losing their jobs, people like me getting their hours cut...I lay the blame directly at Bush and it's mighty suspect that all of this went down toward the end of his run in the White House...It will take some time and he will make his share of mistakes, but i believe President Obama will try his very best to get this thing going in the right direction.
Or are they just looking dor someone to blame .......Besides Bush and Cheney and their failed policies. Things that make you go.........HMMMMMMMMMM! Witness this BULLSHIT

The history of the Butlers/Raw Soul is dense, but for all of us music nerds, that's normal. It is not totally clear what year the Butlers actually formed but they released their first single in 1963 on Liberty Records. That single was "She Tried To Kiss Me" and another single followed on Guyden entitled "Lovable Girl." After the Guyden single the Butlers took a break not recording another record until the single "Laugh, Laugh, Laugh" was released on the Phila label in 1966. The group also backed Charles Earland and Jean Wells on one Phila single ("I Know She Loves Me").

As you might be noticing, the Butlers were doing a fair amount of recording but not achieving much success. The group's recordings sold regionally but never had the promotion to make an impact on the national scene. After the single with Phila, the Butlers moved to the Fairmount label (part of the Cameo-Parkway family) and released a handful of singles, some being reissued singles of the past. The Butlers were with Fairmount for 1966-67 and then moved to Sassy Records. Sassy released the group's greatest single (in my opinion) "Love (Your Pain Goes Deep)" b/w "If That's What You Wanted." A copy of that 45 sold for just under $500 last summer on eBay. Even though that isn't that much in the world of record collecting--it's still a hefty sum. The Butlers released another single on Sassy ("She's Gone" b/w "Love Is Good") that appears to be even
harder to come by then the "Love (Your Pain Goes Deep)" single.

The true history become a bit blurred here as the AMG biography states that the Butlers last record was released on C.R.S. in 1974 (". However, between 1971 and that single, Frankie Beverly formed a group called Raw Soul and released a number of singles. Some of the songs recorded by Beverly during this period are "While I'm Alone," "Open Up Your Heart," (both on the Gregor label) and "Color Blind." "Color Blind" was released by the Eldorado label and rerecorded by Maze. Beverly's big break came when Marvin Gaye asked Raw Soul to back him on a tour. Gaye helped Beverly/Raw Soul get a contract at Capitol. Beverly decided to take the group in a different direction, a name change occurred, and Maze was created.

The above isn't the most complete history of Beverly but hopefully someone will know a way to get in touch with the man or his management because a comprehensive pre-Maze history needs to be done on Frankie Beverly (his real name is Howard, by the way). Below you'll find every Frankie Beverly (pre-Maze) song available to me right now ("Color Blind" will be up soon).

If you have a song that is not included below, shoot it over to funkinsoulman (at) yahoo.com and it will go up in the next Frankie Beverly post (later this week--highlighting Maze). Also, if you have any more information please share your knowledge. The Butlers material has been comp-ed sporadically (usually imports) but the entire Maze catalog has been reissued and is available.

Enjoy.  "She Kissed Me" (Fairmount, 1966 or 1967)

"I Want To Feel I'm Wanted" (not sure which label or year) "Laugh, Laugh, Laugh" (Phila, 1966) "Because Of My Heart" (Fairmount, 1966 or 1967)

"Love (Your Pain Goes Deep)" (Sassy, 1967)

"If That's What You Wanted" (Sassy, 1967)

Frankie Beverly is one of those cats that has lasting power. He started in the music business doing a tour with doo wop group the Silhouettes and then formed his own group called the Blenders. The Blenders never recorded a single, Beverly wouldn't appear on wax until forming the Butlers a few years later. Along with Beverly, the Butlers included Jack "Sonny" Nicholson, Joe Collins, John Fitch, and Talmadge Conway.

Beverly would later enjoy great success fronting Maze and Conway would become a
well-known penning Double Exposure's
"Ten Percent" and the Intruders' "Memories Are Here To Stay."
While Maze is a phenomenal group, Beverly's work before that group will always stand out as his best (imo).

The Butlers produced tunes that most Northern Soul fans would kill for and Raw Soul gave the funksters something to pursue. If, by chance, you know of a way to get in touch with Frankie Beverly or his management, please drop me an e-mail. It would be absolutely great to do an interview with him about his pre-Maze work. He's still playing out, most recently doing a New Year's Eve show in Atlanta.
