Laurie London briefly achieved fame as a boy singer in 1957 when he hit the charts with a version of an old spiritual gospel song, He's Got The Whole World in His Hands.

He was born in Bethnal Green, East London on the 19th of January 1944 and when only 13 years old, he recorded the song He's Got The Whole World in His Hands and although the song performed well in his native Britain, reaching no.12 in November 1957, in the US it did even better peaking at no.1 for FOUR weeks in April 1958. Thereby becoming the first record by a British born artist to top the charts in the rock n roll era. He never achieved another hit either in the US or the UK.
Let me get this right, he was born with a woman`s name, 'Bethnal' ....then he changes it to ANOTHER woman`s name 'Laurie"? What da heck is up wit dat??? Oh well ................ I used to love to sing this song back when I was a mere lad.
