Real Name: Kenneth Dixon Jr. Profile: An outspoken voice in the normally non-confrontational world of electronic dance music, Moodymann (given name: Kenneth Dixon Jr.) is committed to keeping a distinctly black imprint on techno and house. While he may frustrate people with his refusal to be interviewed and insistence on reminding people of the genre's origins, the soulfulness of his output is unquestioned. Utilizing classic soul and jazz samples, low-slung bass lines and an approach to drum programming that is diametrically opposed to the tendency to push the tempo faster and faster, he has achieved classic status thanks to gems like "Sunday Morning", "Shades of Jae", and his remix of Innerzone Orchestra's "People Make the World Go Round". Following years of 12" only releases, he compiled his best work on "Silentintroduction", one of the most celebrated albums of the late 90s.

Moodymann - Moodymann Collection (Mahogani Music) The first ever official Moodymann mix CD handled by the man himself and featuring over 30 tracks from the Mahogani archives. KDJ cuts and pastes between tracks effortlessly, teasing you with snippets of his classics amongst some crazy (and possibly unreleased) bits we’ve never heard before. The mix was up then it got pulled..oh well. A brilliant DJ mix, packed with numerous tracks of that unmistakeable, inimitable KDJ funk.

The second video on the set above of KDJ aka Moodymann, at the Jazz Fest is what attracted me. I was putting together a fingertip Jazz Festival http://msoldschool.ning.com/group/jazzcuffs/forum/topics/fingertip-... and I lost my mind when I saw him...you know how I do. I go into a zone when I come across beauty and badness like that.

I had a similar reaction when I first saw your page at iseecolor. I was transfixed for days!!!! ROFLMBO *why did you do that to me *L*???? * But yeah, I have become one of this man's biggest fans--and I think he is Amp Fiddler's brother Bubz Fiddler. It's a theory--but both of them played with Parliament Funkadelic back in the day and I have everything Amp made. I'm mad about him too (which reminds me, I need to get him up in here!)

Much love *L* and thanks for your feedback.
