When I was a teenager trying to be an adult, I fell in love with Wes Montgomery. For me it was more than just a teenage fancy. I felt genuine appreciation for his excellent style. His gentle sound caressed my ears on many nights as I drifted into a melodic slumber. Hail To The King Of Jazz Guitar! Although this documentary contains some color photos, it also contains some quality black and whites.

Indeed, as a teen, I was turned on to Wes' stuff from CTI Records. A Day in the Life, Down Here on the Ground; these were my introductions to being jazz 'hip'. The documentary presented by you sums it all up! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Simon. I love SoleManKing for starting this page. I am enjoying the stimulating interaction. Very educational.
Wes does something to me---A Day In The Life? I was through---it put me into Wes Land to this day!
Excellent post Vicky!

Didn't learn about him 'til late in my adult life. Beautiful soulful simplicity. Lyrical Genious. Music created from the spirit of a man for the spirit of man. I LOVE WES! I've found several vinyl originals from Wes over the years and they are part of my treasured collection. I have one verve/EMI, London release that was released in 1967, "Wes Montgomery - California Dreaming" ... It has a young blonde chick on the cover...this was an attempt I'm sure to appeal to a wider European (London) and American audience. There were still so many who would not accept nor support the idea of a "Negro/Colored" face on the front cover. Wes does appear on the back in a black and white photo (keeping with our theme here), with a great infectious smile!

Quincy Jones is thoroughly entwined in the musical background of my young adulthood. A genius of unique quality. I have been posting blogs and music throughout the years and decided to embark on the arduous but satisfying task of gathering some of it to remember the excellent legacy that he left.
