The True Reflection

This is an excellent group from the 70s East Coast scene -- with a heavy harmony sound that should have made them famous! Philly greats like Norman Harris, Ronnie Baker, and Vince Montana, all working here in a mode that's similar to that applied to The Spinners after they made their move to Atlantic.

It's the band's harmonies that really take the cake, though -- as they mix together deep-rooted Temptations-esque righteous vocals with… Continue

Shadows

Black and silver shadows

hang on my window sill

...light dripping from a rainy sky

I lay upon my pillow...still

...as the clouds thunder lazily...by.

Willowy figures dance across…

MARIPOSA

As within, so without. Selah....

Tropical depressions imminent,

catered to hot rains, known as my tears.

No time for long stories...

springtime is around my corner, prematurely,

coming early because she heard, and became upset

that winter ravaged my barren lands,

And denied life to my hypothermic soul.

Erratic became my vision

when I spotted you, fluttering with sunrays

as your spotlights

around my earth,

brave and unafraid you come… Continue

Curtis McNair - The Man Behind The Album Covers At Motown

N.C. native Curtis McNair spent various parts of his 76 years as an inventor, artist, teacher and civil rights activist, but he is best known as the designer for some of Motown's best-known album covers, including Marvin Gaye's “What's Going On.” He's now retired and living outside of Wadesboro, with his wife, Donna, a prison chaplain.

McNair, would rather be known for marching for civil rights in the ’40s,…

Kingsbread Sessions Vol 1

Click To Play

Songwriter, singer, and producer Leon Ware

is one of the less-recognized products of the Motown Records

music factory of the 1960s and '70s,

primarily because he has tended to work behind the scenes

despite recording a series of albums under his own name.

His signature style is a highly romantic approach to soul…

The Ronettes

Be My Baby...Ahhhh words forever instilled in my

mind from a beautiful saturday night way back in 1977.

As i sat down and prepared to look at Sha Na Na.

I was excited because days earlier i had heard

the 1960's hit Be My Baby and was blown away

by the sound of Ronnie Spector and the Ronettes

(she was known as Veronica Bennett at that time)

Then the moment came and my 10 year old mind

was in awe… Continue

Process & The Doo Rags

Produced by Rick James, Process & the Doo Rags looked like a '50s doo-wop group with their "processed" hairdos. Actually, the Buffalo, NY group was in vogue, a part of a brief mid-'80s run of harmonizing vocal groups that also included the Force MDs. The group's lineup was former Rick James backup singer James Hawkins, Stacy Lattimore, Henry Graham, Dennis Andrews, and Michael Gibson. Their charting single, "Stomp and Shout," from their 1985… Continue

Clouds

You wrap me up in cotton candy, Lord.

swirling gently in a heavenly bed..

while your breezes sweet,

sing melodies of eons of time

gone by..and whisper eons more ahead.

You give me taffy apple'd hugs of love

and freshly roasted peanuts of joy..

lemonade dripping from your expanse

mixed with laughter from above..

Oh, do not take, from my happy…

RECENT BLACK HISTORY REVEALED

See What They Never Told You........or Me!

Day of the Zulu..............................Clues and Evidence

On January 22, 1879 -- the legendary "Day of the Zulu," when more than twenty thousand Zulu warriors nearly wiped out the forces of the invading British army -- even the sun was on the side of the Zulu Nation.
